Working with Cougill Roofing

What types of roofing projects does Cougill Roofing handle?

We handle residential and commercial roofing projects ranging from repairs and maintenance to complete roof replacements. Our experience includes asphalt shingles, metal, slate, tile, shake and low-slope commercial roofing systems, as well as custom copper and sheet-metal work.

Can you help me determine whether I need a repair or a full roof replacement?

Absolutely. The first step is understanding what is actually causing the problem. Our team carefully evaluates your roof, investigates potential issues and explains the available options so you can make an informed decision instead of automatically assuming a replacement is necessary.

Will you help me compare roofing materials and options?

Yes. We walk you through available materials, appearance, performance and cost considerations so you understand your options before making a decision. Our goal is to recommend a solution that fits your property, priorities and budget.

Do you work on specialty roofs such as slate, tile, metal or copper?

Yes. Specialty roofing is an important part of our experience. In addition to conventional roofing systems, our team works with slate, tile and metal and provides custom copper, flashing, gutters and other sheet-metal components.

What makes Cougill Roofing different from other roofing companies?

We combine decades of hands-on roofing experience with a problem-solving approach. Rather than treating every roofing issue the same way, we investigate the cause, explain the available options and recommend a solution designed for long-term performance.

How do you protect my property while roofing work is underway?

Before work begins, our team evaluates the areas around your home or building that may require protection during tear-off and installation, including landscaping, walkways, exterior equipment and other sensitive areas. We maintain an orderly jobsite throughout the project and complete a thorough cleanup when the work is finished.

What should I expect before my roofing project starts?

We review the project scope, roofing materials, access considerations and areas around the property that may require special attention, so everyone is prepared before work begins.

How do you minimize roofing debris around my home or business?

Roof replacement naturally creates debris, so containment and cleanup are important parts of the project. Our crews keep materials controlled throughout installation and clean the property thoroughly after the work is completed.

What if my roofing problem turns out to be more complicated than expected?

Complex roofing problems are where experience matters. We take the time to investigate the source of leaks or deterioration and explain what we find. If conditions affect the recommended solution, we discuss the findings and options with you before moving forward.

Can I ask questions while my roofing project is underway?

Of course. Clear communication is important to us. We want customers to understand what we are doing, why we are doing it and what to expect next, so questions are welcome throughout the project.

Do you offer consultations or estimates before I commit to a project?

Yes. We offer free roofing consultations and estimates so we can evaluate your needs, discuss appropriate solutions and help you understand the project before you make a decision.

Why use one roofing contractor for both the steep and flat roofs on my home?

Where a flat roof — a porch, patio or balcony — ties into a steep roof is one of the most common places for leaks. If two different contractors did those sections, it becomes a question of whose problem the leak is. Cougill Roofing handles steep roofs, flat roofs, balconies and flashings as one system, so one company is responsible for every intersection.

Is Cougill Roofing a general contractor?

No. Roofing is all we do — we are not a construction company. We have focused exclusively on roofing for more than 30 years, including steep-slope shingle, tile and slate roofs, flat roofs, waterproofing for balconies and custom flashings.

What areas does Cougill Roofing serve?

We are based in North Little Rock, Arkansas and serve Central Arkansas, including Little Rock, Maumelle, Jacksonville, Sherwood, Benton, Bryant, Hot Springs, Malvern, Pine Bluff, Cabot, Searcy, Morrilton, Russellville and Scott.

What are your business hours?

Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM. We are closed Saturday and Sunday. Showroom visits are by appointment preferred.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. We offer flexible financing options so property owners can protect their home or building with a safe, secure roof.

How long does a slate roof last?

A properly installed natural slate roof can last well over 100 years. Fasteners, flashings and underlayment usually need attention before the slate itself wears out, which is why periodic inspection by a slate-experienced roofer matters.

Can a damaged slate roof be repaired instead of replaced?

Usually, yes. Individual cracked or missing slates can be replaced and matched to the existing color and texture. Cougill Roofing evaluates the whole roof first so you know whether targeted repair or restoration is the better value.

How often should a slate roof be inspected in Arkansas?

At least once a year, or at minimum every two years. Arkansas ice storms can damage slate, and regular inspection catches cracked or slipped slates and worn flashings before they lead to leaks.

Is slate too heavy for my house?

Natural slate is heavier than shingles, so the roof structure must be evaluated before a first-time slate installation. We assess the framing as part of planning any new slate roof.

Why does my tile roof leak if the tiles look fine?

Most tile roof leaks come from what is underneath — aged underlayment, failed flashings or poorly sealed penetrations — not the tile itself. Diagnosing the true source is the first step, and it often allows a repair instead of a full replacement.

Do tile roofs need to be cleaned?

Often, yes — especially under tall trees. Leaves and debris collect on and under tile and can cause problems beneath the roof, so tile roofs in wooded settings benefit from regular cleaning as part of a maintenance plan.

Can you match tiles on an older home?

In most cases. We source matching clay and concrete tile, including reclaimed tile for historic homes, so replacement tiles blend in with the original roof.

How long does a tile roof last?

A well-installed clay or concrete tile roof can last for decades and often outlasts most other roofing materials. The underlayment beneath the tile typically needs renewal before the tile does.

How long does an asphalt shingle roof last in Arkansas?

An average roof lasts about 25 to 30 years. The actual lifespan depends on the shingle line, installation quality, attic ventilation, maintenance and weather exposure.

What are the signs my shingle roof needs replacing?

Curled, cracked or missing shingles; water stains on ceilings or walls; algae or moss growth; damaged flashing around chimneys and vents; and rising energy bills without a change in usage can all indicate a failing roof.

Do you install shingles on commercial buildings?

Yes. Many light-commercial and multifamily buildings with sloped roofs use asphalt shingles, and we install and repair them for commercial clients as well as homeowners.

Is a metal roof a good choice in Arkansas?

For many buildings, yes. Metal is durable, sheds heavy rain well and is energy efficient. The right choice depends on your roof’s pitch, structure, budget and appearance goals, which we walk through during a consultation.

Do you install metal roofs on homes or only commercial buildings?

Both. We install standing-seam metal roofs on homes as well as on commercial buildings, and we fabricate custom metal flashings and trim for either type of project.

Does a wood shake roof need maintenance?

Yes. Natural wood shake benefits from periodic inspection and maintenance to keep it performing. Composite shake requires considerably less upkeep.

Custom Copper Roofs, Flashings & Gutters

Why use copper flashing instead of aluminum or galvanized steel?

Copper is long-lasting, highly workable for custom shapes and develops a protective patina. It pairs well with long-life roofs like slate and tile, where flashings should last as long as the roof itself.

Do you install copper gutters?

Yes. We fabricate and install custom copper gutters and downspouts in addition to copper roofs and flashings.

How long does a commercial roof last?

Generally between 15 and 45 years with proper maintenance and care. Lifespan depends heavily on the roofing system, installation quality and how consistently the roof is maintained.

How often should a commercial roof be inspected?

At least twice a year, plus after severe weather and after any rooftop construction or equipment installation. Regular inspections catch leaks, deteriorating materials and loose seams early.

How long does a commercial roofing project take?

It depends on building size, project complexity and weather. We give you a project timeline during the consultation based on your specific building and needs.

Does a leaky roof need to be replaced entirely?

Not necessarily. Whether a leaking roof needs replacement depends on the extent of the damage and the roof’s age. Often a simple repair is sufficient. If damage is extensive or the roof is very old, replacement may be the better long-term choice.

Can you help me decide between repair and replacement?

Yes. We start by understanding what is actually causing the problem, then explain the options so you can make an informed decision rather than assuming a replacement is necessary.

What if the problem is more complicated than expected?

Complex roofing problems are where experience matters most. We investigate the source of the leak or deterioration, explain what we find, and discuss options with you before moving forward.

How long does a roof replacement take?

Most residential roof replacements take a few days, depending on the size and complexity of the roof, the material, the weather and what we find once the old roofing is removed. We give you a realistic timeline during the consultation and keep you updated as the work progresses.

How do you protect my property during a roof replacement?

Before work begins we evaluate areas that need protection during tear-off and installation, including landscaping, walkways and exterior equipment. We keep an orderly jobsite and complete a thorough cleanup when the work is finished.

How do you minimize roofing debris?

Roof replacement naturally creates debris, so containment and cleanup are built into the project. Our crews keep materials controlled throughout installation and clean the property thoroughly afterward.

How often should my roof be inspected?

Commercial roofs should be inspected at least twice a year and after severe weather. For homes, periodic inspections — and a check after major storms — help catch problems early.

What are the signs of a failing roof?

Curled, cracked or missing shingles; water stains on ceilings or walls; algae or moss; damaged flashing around chimneys and vents; and higher energy bills without a change in usage.
